The U.S. soccer team won its first World Cup with a 9-0 win over the Netherlands in the final on July 24 in Lyon, France.
Tommy Smith, an accomplished college soccer player, scored four goals in the U.S. win.
This is the first time in history that a team with an undefeated streak at the World Cup qualified for the finals.
The Netherlands beat Japan, 2-0, on Friday in the other final.
The Netherlands started as the 3-0 favorites as the U.S. entered the game as the heavy favorite to win. However, the U.S. came from behind to win 7-6.
The U.S. team includes three players from last year’s World Cup squad.
The U.S. lost to Brazil, 1-0, on July 8 in the semifinals.
