LORAIN — As the year comes to a close, we can celebrate all that we have learned and gained.

We can look forward to a new beginning where we will be active in our communities and families will be able to grow and thrive with the opportunity to be part of a new future. We also can look ahead to a year filled with changes and challenges as we prepare for the next chapter in our community.

The best part of the new year is that we have the opportunity to make it better. We have a new Commission. The Commission this year has a range of expertise that will create a plan that will provide for the well-being and futures of our children, families and communities. “I am excited to begin working with the Public Personnel Commission to ensure that our children and their families are supported and thrive,” said Director of the Department of Children and Families (DCF), Linda Smith, in a press release. “All parents deserve the opportunity to work with their children and their families and we must ensure that our children are raised in a healthy, safe and loving environment where they have the opportunities to be successful.”

Commissioner Mark Farr, chair of the PPC, said, “This is an exciting opportunity to start a new chapter in Lorain County government. It has been my honor and privilege to serve as the chair of the Public Personnel Commission. I am excited to work with members of the Commission to create a strong, collaborative plan for the future of families and workers in Lorain County.”

The Public Personnel Commission consists of seven members including Commissioner Mark Farr and current and former elected officials. They will present a draft plan to the County Commission in the summer of 2014.
