The California Voter Information Form

California is still waiting for some election results. Follow the journey of a mail ballot.

Californians are still waiting for some election results.

There are 1.4 million registered voters and an additional 1.1 million voters who were originally listed as inactive but are now deemed eligible to register to vote. This means 9.1 million voters will be registered to vote in the November general election.

A third of them live in California, which accounts for the large number of ballots to be sent out in the state. In Los Angeles County alone, there will be over 1,700,000 ballots out to be returned. In Orange County, the number is over 900,000. In San Diego, over 1 million ballots will be mailed out.

By law, mail ballots must be returned by the 5 p.m. deadline on Nov. 8, but this has to be a postmark on the envelope and not a signature. However, in the case of an invalid address, it’s not counted as a vote. This means thousands of ballots could end up with the wrong names on them. Also, many voters in Los Angeles may live in the wrong city or county. This means there won’t be a valid vote.

So this is a waiting game, a waiting to see if more votes will be counted, and who shows up at their polling sites. As of Wednesday we should have a clearer idea of how long it will take to get an accurate head count for California.

Here’s the latest on how many mail ballots will be sent out.

Voting officials are still counting ballots in some areas, but there is a greater number than there was yesterday. Los Angeles County has received over 17,000 ballots and a total of 476,000 ballots have been received. Orange County has received nearly 2,000 ballots and a total of 845,000 ballots have been received.

In the Inland Empire, the number of ballots sent to the county is far less, with officials estimating there are less than 300,000 ballots sent out
