Stephen Fry: 'I was really ungracious when I saw my fellow human beings taking the mickey away from me.

James Corden admits he was ‘ungracious’ to restaurant staff: ‘It was wrong’

The presenter admitted: ‘I’d been told not to go up to one of the women who I’d been on TV with. It’s the law. I didn’t know who they were at first but then I did. And then eventually I took my top off. And when you were told not to do it and you go and you make a joke about it, you are a bit ungracious.’

This week Stephen Fry told Newsnight reporter Lizo Mzimba that he was ‘absolutely’ sorry about the ‘barbarian’ bar scene.

But Stephen said he had been made to look like a ‘barbaric’ man.

He tweeted: ‘I was extremely ungracious when I saw my fellow human beings taking the mickey.

He went on to explain: ‘I did not intend to offend anyone. I do not take things so seriously and I get so tired of people in this country who do.’

On Thursday, Stephen said: ‘To be honest, I was really annoyed that I was making such an insensitive remark, even though I was being asked not to.

‘It’s just that people who take themselves so seriously tend to be the most ungracious, unkind and aggressive.

‘I was really ungracious, wasn’t I? I was not ungracious. I was just ungracious enough to not say anything.

‘I’m sorry, it was wrong… but I did not intend to hurt anyone’s feelings. I just wanted my microphone taken away from me. I am very sorry if it caused them to take it away from me. I won’t do that again.’
