Letters to the Editor: How is Rick Caruso ‘earning’ Latino support?
Rick Caruso is the new Hispanic spokesperson for the city of Tucson. Caruso was elected along with city council candidate, Jose Huerta, in a close race. I feel we need a new spokesperson, but Caruso’s campaign has been problematic because the issue on how the city of Tucson was run has not been addressed thoroughly. We need new people who are passionate about the City of Tucson making decisions that affect the people of Tucson and not a group of “politicians.” I am excited for the changes the new leadership will bring. However, if we want change we should elect new people.
To be honest, Caruso is not my type of person. I want a person who will not hold my vote hostage and will not run a negative campaign. He has had many negative campaign ads all over the media. Most of the voters in Tucson are not voting based on a campaign. The city has a lot of problems that have been ignored for many years, but that doesn’t mean it is time for a new leader. The people of Tucson have been ignored and not elected, and Caruso will continue to be a voice of negativity when talking to the Tucson community about the issues.
I think we can have a new spokesperson just like all our new council members. I think we can have new leaders to represent us, but not until we have a leader that is ready to speak on behalf of the people of Tucson. That is why we need a new spokesman, the public. We all need to take our responsibility for our city of Tucson by electing a new council member.
Caruso will continue to put himself ahead of all of us. Caruso may win in November but he will be in trouble if he can’t get the city to follow through with his campaign promises. Caruso has been talking about taking action to remove the homeless and the people who commit crimes from our streets, and he is ready to do what it takes to do this. Now that he has won a seat on the city council, he has decided he wants to make major changes. We need more than Caruso and Caruso alone. We need a new team who can make the changes happen.
