Nick Carter Breaks His Silence on the Death of His Baby Brother

Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter mourns death of ‘baby brother’ Aaron Carter, 19

Nick Carter, the oldest brother of pop music duo the Backstreet Boys, has expressed his shock and sadness following the tragic death of Aaron Carter, his baby brother, who died after suffering an apparent overdose at a party in Los Angeles.

Carter is one of the four children of co-founder Kevin Richardson and former Backstreet Girls member Monica Carter. Carter, 19, was arrested in late May and was later released on a $25,000 bail.

Nick Carter has broken his silence on his brother’s death to The Associated Press.

“I’m really upset about it. His death was unnecessary, there was nothing sinister to it and it was a really tragic loss for everyone,” Carter, who is currently dating Christina Milian, tells AP.

Carter says that he and the other three Backstreet Boys children — Andrew, 17; Sean, 16; and Kevin, 13, who died of a drug overdose in 2002 when he was 14 — were with Carter’s mother, Andrea, when she heard news reports that a teenager had taken his life.

“It was a bad night for everybody. There was an accident, and we just found out it was one of the children,” Carter tells AP in a phone interview. “So that was kind of hard, but at the same time I know in the back of my mind I wanted to let them know that they weren’t alone in the world and we’re all here, and we’re all safe.”

“You never want to say things, but I just, I just need to say that Aaron is no longer suffering,” Carter tells AP.

Carter’s father told AP that he had not been told anything about his sons’ deaths.

“He was devastated that his oldest child died — his baby brother,” Kevin Carter told AP. “He just couldn’t believe it.”

The father told AP that they will be moving forward without Aaron. He has his own family now, and is planning for a future without Aaron.
