Bill Nye's Housekeeper Projections Are a Reality

Meet the projection activist who just trolled Elon Musk on Twitter’s headquarters stage

It’s rare that you learn how a particular artist or artist-in-residence got started, but that’s exactly what happened this afternoon. It turns out that Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s tweet about his housekeeper, which he tweeted out about Thursday afternoon, was actually a projection made by artist and activist Bill Nye!

Nye, known for his creation of the iconic, full face “Star Wars” helmet, was on-hand to see his very own house and see how his creations reflected it. And what a home it is!

Nye’s Twitter bio says he’s a “Creative Director of the Planetary Society, Director of Science education at The Children’s Museum of Science and author of the new book ‘Life, Through the Eyes of a Star.’ ” We asked Nye for a follow up, and here’s what he had to say:

“Here’s the story of how it was made in the middle of a Tesla rally.

“I was driving back to my hotel from the SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, when Elon Musk called into my podcast, ‘Bill’, and had me stop him. ‘Bill, I’m going to make sure to get your voice and use it on Twitter.

‘Bill, I think everybody here would like to see some of your amazing work, and we’re going to put it in Elon’s office, in his office, in the next time you are here. It’s going to make me famous!'”

Now, this may sound like something out of a movie like “The Truman Show” or “The Imitation Game,” but here’s the thing: Tesla fans really ARE going to love this.

“I did it a second time. I do it a third time,” Nye says. “It’s very rare that you learn how the creator who made something got started. But that is exactly what I did.”

“We’re all very grateful for Bill Nye for being the person who made this. We’re all very grateful because he has created a new and a wonderful thing for the world.”
